Replacing Engine Room Fire System
#1
The system on our 2001 5000 express discharged for unknown reasons while at the boatyard. The yard is willing to pay for a new system but says the manufacturer says the old system was oversized for our boat and wants to go with a smaller one (approx 600 Cu Ft). I want what Tiara apparently considered properly sized new (1200 Cu Ft). Anyone have insight on the basis for the original 1200 Cu Ft? The yards math on the related ER space appears to support the smaller size. Thanks

Try calling Tiara & explaining the situation. Ask for customer relations, I've found them to be very helpful.

I'm a stickler for putting things back together the way the factory designed them unless a substantial improvement can be made by changing the system. Downgrading the Fire System does not seem to be an upgrade. Just a thought.

Thank you both. Btw I fully agree that anything less than original specs is no good. Turns out the yard failed to include an area aft of the engine room behind a false bulkhead that is considered part of the same fire area. They are in the process of installing to the correct specs. Regards, John
