I am a new owner of a 2010 Tiara 4300 Sovran, Model  D6-435 - D drives. I have about 450 hours on drives. I saw a couple a fault errors on the EVC display recently and then a week later noted that my steering was not responding as usual under full power. Docking station seems to still work fine but vessel is slow to respond to steering wheel and feels like it has too much free play. 

On first call to VP dealer they respond that the EVC modules " fail all the time" and  I am looking at $$$ in possible replacement/repairs without even doing any diagnostics on vessel. Being a first time IPS owner this comment was a bit unnerving but knew IPS maintenance/repair was going to be higher.  

Any feedback regarding problems similar to this. Anything I might check before going to the dealer?

Checkout boatdiesel.com. Some really good experts available as are numerous posts regarding diagnosing EVC modules. Well,worth the $25 annual fee.

I would at least get a VP tech onboard with the vodia tool and see what codes if any are present. From that you should be able to come up with the best course of action. Just shot gunning parts at the boat will end up costing you more in the long run...
