Muffler Drains 4000 Express?
#1
Common sense and my owners manual says I should have drains on my mufflers, but I cannot find them to save my life. Did Tiara not include them on some models?

They are usually on the aft bottom end of the muffler, where the rubber hose connects the muffler to the exhaust thru hull.

Good Luck trying to reach them. In my 4000 express you'd have to pull the engine. Takes about 15 gallons of antifreeze to get the right reading out of the exhaust on a refractometer.

Ok, that’s what I figured, August, thanks. It just strikes me as odd when I come across something that thoughtless from Tiara. They seemed to think of everything on our boats. Guess they’re allowed a mistake now and again.

Looks like I’ll just keep doing the anti-freeze dump.

On the 5200, you can access the muffler drains by crawling in the bilge area around the rudder posts, accessed through the floor of the garage. The 4000 has a similar space, though I don’t know if you can get to the muffler drains that way.

JMK — on the 4000, I think they want the lifters drained (big tubs forward and outboard the engines). At least that’s what the pic in the manual looks like.

I think I’m gonna just roll with what I’ve got and continue filling the system with antifreeze. Not terribly efficient, but better than leaving something unprotected. Kinda fool proof when you pull samples from the exhaust and PSS.

The 4000 is Vdrives...and lift exhaust is actually slightly forward and outboard of the engines.  You'd have to be Houdini to reach them.   Believe if I could I would....

If your 5200 has mufflers near rudders then I assume you have straight shafts.  There is no way there is similar space in the 4000 vs the 5200.   I dont have a lot of complaints about the 40 express but engine room space is one of them for sure....

Gotcha. I meant “similar compartment”. Poor wording. For sure the 5200 has lots more mechanical space. It does have V-drives but the mufflers are the inline type and located close to the stern, so apparently quite different from the 4000.
