Tiara Open Aftercooler Maintenance
#1
03 42' Open with C12 Cat's , doing Aftercooler maintenance 2nd time sense owning the boat . Port engine aftercooler pretty easy to remove , Starboard engine is a little more challenging , what's everyone else rigging method for lifting and removal on the outboard cooler . Wish Tiara would have made the deck raise up like on the other Open Models , just 1' would have been nice .

I had a 43 open which is a similar setup. When I pulled the aftercooler core I had one person get themselves to the outboard side where he could get at the aft end of the core (no easy feat) and another person reach over the top and grab the forward corner of the core. We then rolled the core (carefully) onto the top of the engine (covered with a moving blanket). There was just enough room to slide it over the top. Measure gap to be sure and be careful not to damage cooling fins or the manifold pressure or temp sensors.

Good luck

Mr Clark, i took a piece of angle bracket (2"x2"x1/8") and drilled 4 holes into it , two to bolt the cooler onto and two for clearance for the dowel pins . Then welded a bracket that will swivel with a 2" hole so we can pass a 58" long pipe through it in the middle of the angle bracket . Then placed a 2x4 on top on the valve covers with a blanket underneath . Pass the pipe through the hole with one guy on the pipe for leverage standing between the engines and the second guy to guide the cooler out and roll it down the 2x4 towards the turbo then lift it out . Also put a bolt through the pipe in the end of it after you pass it through the swivel so the angel bracket can't slide off with the cooler attached . It's still a little bit of a struggle , but at least you have the leverage of the pipe . If you think this will help you the next time i can txt you some picture of what i have .
Thanks for the reply and glad i don't have to do this every season .

That’s a great idea and good information to share. Wish I had that information last time I pulled them.

If you can post a picture of the rigging. It will come in handy for sure.
