I have a portlight that needs rebedding. I am looking for recommendations on which silicone to use.
Dow 795 came highly recommended, but doesn't setup and bond well in cooler temperatures.
My boat is stored indoors, but in an unheated warehouse. I plan on starting in March, so the temps will likely be below 50 degrees up here on Lake Erie.
I would not use a silicone as a bedding compound unless you are setting glass into a frame. I think Tiara uses Bostich 920, a urethane base construction adhesive similar to 5200, for most of their hardware bedding. Either one of these will provide a permanent seal/adhesion and are moisture cured so should be ok applying in a cool environment. Boatlife life caulk (polysulfide) will allow you to remove the porthole easier in the future if so desired. Butyl tape also works well for bedding and is easy to work with.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid 5200 or comparable adhesives because should I need to rebed in the future (very likely), I don't want to bend the outer frame of the portlight trying to get it off. I'll check out Boatlife's products.
