My name is Jim, and my wife and I are getting a 1999 4100. We are just about to acquire it and the broker we received this from is not very familiar with the workings of everything on the boat. We had all the surveys done on the boat but have not had anyone that has actually owned and operated it.
We have owned several boats in the past but this is the first with Diesels ( DD 6V92). I was curious if there is anyone close to us that is familiar with the operation of the 4100. I have read the Owners Manuel but it is somewhat vague. There is always some special little quirks to every boat and you can find out from trial and error. I am trying to lessen that learning curve.
So if there is anyone close by that can help me on this I would be grateful.

I have a 1999 Open with 6V92’s. Both of mine are rebuilt with 350 or less hours. DO NOT let them get hot or over 200! Mine run at 180 in Lk Michigan. They like 1800 rpmsat cruise- you can go more but why. Let them warm up before you go and let them cool down before you shut them down. Its a great hull and heck of a boat. Take it slow and easy as you get use to the torque in marinas or close to other boats and slips. Have fun. PS: do a visual on engines before you fire them up and obviously check oil and coolant. I have my impellers changed every season along with oil and all filters.

Thank you for the information. In the Sea Trial we only ran with on one motor engaged through the Harbor to keep the speed down. On your 4100 what is your speed at 1800 rpm ? Again during the Sea Trial it seemed that the sweet spot was 1700-1800 rpm at a speed of 19/20 knots. I was thinking it would be faster with these motors.
OK, now that we have had the boat for awhile ( love it ). I have a question I see the air line coming out of the waste tank but cant fine a inline filter. Can some one tell me where that may be?
Jim
I can't speak to the 4100 directly. I have 94' 4300 open (w/ 6V92TA's ; ). My holding tank is centerline under the salon. The vent line comes up and off to the port side to the thru-hull fitting (located directly below the waste deck fitting). Not sure if it came from the factory this way, but the filter is about 2' down the vent line of the tank and screwed to the forward bulk head, nearly where it meets the salon deck. Removing the hatch to access it, you easily miss it because it's really tucked under there. Need to get on your knees and reach for it.
Open the hatch in the galley where your water system is. There is storage under it. Stick your head in the compartment and look forward. The filter should be attached to the bulkhead on the far end of the compartment.
