Airmar thru Hull transducer location
#1
Have a 1999 TiAra 3100 Open. Thru Hull Transducers were removed from aft of fuel tank location by prior owner. I am adding a B175HW chirp. I find Two possible locations - aft of tanks or under companionway steps next to shower sump. The latter being dry all the time. Aft bilge location is wet all the time. Anyone have experience with transducers on a 3100?

No experience with a 3100, but on my 3600 my airmar transducer is right between my motors, off center to the port side. There us some water that pools there around it, but thats never been an issue.

Hi
did you make your install? Are you happy?  Any advice?

I am about to install an Airmar 175  in my '99 2900 (its huge!)
I thought about knocking out a smaller, defunct unit accessed through the main bilge hatch and under the Starboard side.

Regards,
Fasty

I ended up putting transducer aft of fuel tanks in aft bilge where a prior transducer had been located. No issues so far. I get depth info at full speed. Be sure to locate transducer where it gets a clear non-turbulent flow of water. Do not locate behind a strut or other hull obstruction.

thank you for the info whit

I'd love to hear what plotter/sounder you are using
my boat came with a mishmash... lowrance plotter/sounder, simrad auto-pilot, JRC radar... im looking to move to a simrad unit to match up with the AP.

Boat came with a single Garmin 7612 Plotter, Garmin PS-51 Sonar transducer, Garmin GMR424 HD2 radar, older Raymarine Raypilot 650 autopilot, Standard VHF radio. Prior owner had removed bottom transducers and installed the PS-51 fwd looking sonar that is not good for getting depth at speed over 12 knots.

I added another 7612 plotter and Airmar B175HW transducer. Garmin units are ready to network and have all the ports necessary for tying stuff together.
Had to use NMEA 0183 to link older Raypilot autopilot.

Any chance you can post a photo of this install? Does the transducer sit in the bilge between the prop shaft wells? Also, I assume you are using a tilted element?

I have a 97 3100 and there are 3 different transducers installed in the bilge between motors. Only one of them works. I'm replacing them all with a single B175HW but I think at least for this season I'm just going to leave the old ones.

Here are pics of B175HW transducer location in rear compartment 99 Tiara 3100 Open aft of fuel tanks. Prior owner had filled in holes for three transducers located there. I "reused" one of them.

These are very helpful thank you. I have no transducers back there and the install space is better. Looks like you have the same tilted element too.

Does your bilge stay dry there? Mine doesn't.
