Crusader 454 XL stalling issue
#1
My 1994 31' Open with TBI 454's will start but only run for 20-45 seconds then dies from lack of fuel - wait 20 minutes and it starts right up and dies again. I suspect the electric fuel pump an if it were the oil pressure sensor I don't think it would run at all and I do get good oil pressure on the Gage so I suspect the electric pump - any other with similar issue? Thanks

Sounds like a fuel "filter" issue to me. There are two of them, a primary and a secondary.
Fuel pumps either run or they don't. You should be able to hear the fuel pump cycle when you turn the key to ON but not to START.
If you have an oil pressure warning "light", that will tell you whether the OP switch is working. If the light stays ON after starting it is an oil pressure switch problem.

I agree it sounds like a fuel filter issue. My 1997 454XLi engines had three fuel filters per motor. A 'hockey puck' with a reusable screen, a small Racor, and finally a small canister filter up by the throttle body itself. Bob

it is always nice when there is a problem and you find out how to fix it, to tell the rest of us what the fix was!!  So helpful when reading threads.

I ad an intermittence problem of one engine losing rpms and then dying. After eliminating every other possibility, we found that the anti-siphon valve in one of the tanks was defective and was causing a vacuum that overworked the fuel pump.

That, or the mechanic took me foe a ride!

The anti siphon valve is a check valve at the tank and they do stick. I have seen the problem more than once. When filters don't help a starving engine a sharp rap on the AS valve will sometimes get it going. Keep that mechanic. Some guys don't even know about an AS valve.  Capt.  George
