Hi all, I’m looking for some help. I bought a 2000 tiara 3100 with twin crusader 7.4 MPI. At of the survey, it was identified that the starboard engine alternator was not working. Seller had it replaced (as well as few other things) and I signed papers last Friday. That same day, I took the maiden voyage from cape cod to Warwick RI. About 5 minutes into it I thought I smelled burning wire, but it quickly went away and we wrote it off as coming form the shipping yard we were passing.
30 minutes later the starboard engine stalled and the ignition fuse tripped. After a few minutes, the engine started again and we continued (after the broker and mechanic told us it was fine and to continue and have it looked at in RI). It happened again an hour later and we inspected the alternator to see the pole was lose and the ground had burned, melting a few wires nearby.
Drove on one engine until we hit the marina, then used both to dock. Went down the next day to swap the ground and saw the entire harness was melted as far back as I can see and the alternator post is actually very loose.
Had two mechanics inspect it to get estimates and both said the entire harness needs to be replaced and that it was a result of the wire arching due to the lose post and ground.
Of course, the harness is next to impossible to find and I am at a lose.
The part number for the original harness is 49028, but crusader no longer makes it.
Anyone have any suggestions for getting the harness or recommendation for someone to custom make one? I have owned my new boat for 1 week and it has been dead since the first day.
