DAMAGE TO CUMMINS 315 ON MY 99 TIARA 31
#4
I'm near positive that pump is gear driven. If the rear pump seal failed, it could easily dump saltwater into the oil. If that pump was installed one week before the failure, where did you get the pump and who installed it? If a marine service center supplied and installed the pump, I would be looking to them to repair/replace the damaged engine. If you purchased the pump and you installed it, you are likely going to be out of luck as there is no way to determine if the failure was due to shipping damage, installation damage or both.

There are other items that can mix sea-water with the engine oil such as the oil cooler and head gasket. Are you sure that it is the raw water pump that failed?

Sorry to hear of your trouble and hopefully is repairable.
