Don't want to hijack the thread but for anyone who might be interested, once the old Formica and it's 3/4" underlayment are removed, a 1/4" piece of plywood could go down with the 1/2 Corian on top of that. This brings you back to the original 3/4". The fiddles have a 7/8" groove along their back face. They could then be adhered to the edge of the Corian with a fastening method of your choice. The extra 1/8" in the groove is to hide any waviness in the joints.

Then the cost was the only obstacle remaining. It was more than I wanted to spend
