I just went through this with a friends 43. The morose control head has a cast aluminum pivot arm that actuates the cable. On his the casting failed and the gear would no longer shift. Fortunately the controls are setup for dual station so the fix was simple and involved switching the cable to the other side of the arm. Pop the cover off the shifter assembly and take a look. should be obvious if the mechanism failed. If not time for a new cable.
