Yes, the backrest is only attached by the brackets. No screws. Simply give it a good tug on each end and it will pop up. It is pretty snug and reinstalling requires a little pressure to get the brackets back together.
I live in Seattle, WA and used Styles Auto & Marine Upholstery in Victoria, BC. They reused the existing foam but added 1/4” layer to everything “to smooth it out”. It turned out beautifully but a few pieces required slight hinge adjustments to get the seams and edges of the adjacent cushions to align. All pretty simple stuff.
