Because of the properties stated above the neoprene seems a good choice. Available in cut sheets in different thickness, also one company offers choice of fabric finishes for each side (polyester, nylon, peel n stick, u loop for use with Velcro). Either select a fabric to under side that will give a finished look or cover with a cloth finish.
Seems easy enough and straight forward to at least install the foam myself, maybe hire upholstery shop to install finished covering.
Any thoughts on this approach?
