I suggest you install the new type water pumps on your 8.1's. The front crankshaft mounted units are failure prone, sometimes only lasting two years.
The new style side mounted pumps seem to be problem free. The mod kits are an easy fix. Capt. George
Second that.
The previous owner had the crankshaft mounted units that weep (and weep a lot when they start to fail) that sprayed salt water all over that side of the engines all the way up to the decking above. It took me a few days to figure out what the brown/rust colored line across the engine compartment ceiling was (boat was on the hard). Immediately upon purchase I switched to the belt driven raw water pumps which work great (no weeping).

Not sure what year your boat is but my '99 3500 Open had the sending units go bad and I replaced them myself. Here is a link to the units. You will need to know the depth of the tank to make sure you get the right one and if you can't determine that I am sure Tiara will let you know. My boat has the vdo gauges which were identical to the gauges on the 31 open I owned previous to the 35.
It is an easy fix, IIRC changing both took about an hour tops.
