I would love to hear your answer, as I bought the new extension cable that will run everything, I just have to figure out how to get it from the map box, over to the helm without tearing anything up!! TIA.
Did you figure this out ? I am in the process of doing the same thing and need to run a wire from the stereo to the helm, any help /guidance would be appreciated.
well yes an no. Once you get the wire into the engine compartment, it is a piece of cake getting it up to the helm, as the helm pulls forward and you can see where all the wires are run.
The problem we had was getting it from the map box to the engine room. Now its has been a while but, the whole port side can be unscrewed (look under the black mesh that is used to reduce the glare) Carefully take those screws out an slide that whole thing around, be careful, you don't want to break that. Now you can see where the radio wires can be run. The biggest problem is, we had to drill a hole in the deck over by where the map box is. I did not want to do that, but figured, what the heck, the hole is covered and dry, so water should not be getting into anywhere, so I hope that is good. Now replace the thing you just moved and there you go!! I know this may not make doesn't make sense, but if you follow what I said and look around, you should see what I am talking about.
I did spend time trying to figure all the 'chases' for the wire runs. If you look in the head, there are several access panels, that you can remove and inspect where the wires go.( one was in the cabinet , one was under the sink, in that cabinet) I never did find out where the stereo's wires were though. Someone told me they thought they ran underneath the head liner in the cabin. No way I was messing with that, so the above was my solution. I had help with moving the thing by the map compartment, it is more balky then heavy.
Good luck and let me know if this makes no sense. If not I'll try again!!
