Sounds to me like it is going into limp mode. My 33 with LXI’s did this a couple of years ago. Temps were good, oil pressure was good. Only happened after cruising for more than 30 minutes or so. Long story short, my port transmission was very low on fluid and would get hot enough to trip the sensor causing the motor to go into limp mode.

I have a similar issue, max rpm is 3700. I went thru everything as previously mentioned. Engines sound great even at the lower wot. My compression is low, even but low. 115-118 across the board. My engines tho are 32 years old with roughly 2100hrs. They’ll be coming out for an overhaul this winter. Hope you have a simple fix
