Looking at a 1989 3600 repowered with MerCrusier 8.1 HO 's @ 425hp
#1
The boat was repowered with Mercrusier 8.1 High Output gassers rated at 425 HP and tuned for more low end torque. The engines currently have 480 hours on them. Anyone familiar with the powerplants and opinions? Boat is going to be strictly short distance pleasure use. Harbor cruising and weekend Catalina / local costal trips.

I have an 86 3600 with the Crusader 454's (350 HP, later revised to 320 HP). Your boat should run well with the 8.1 HO's.

Thank you for your response. What props are you running? What kind of performance are you getting rpm/knts wise if I may ask....

I'm turning 18x21 three blade props. 3000 rpm I'm running about 19 knots, 3200 21 knots in fair seas. That is also on the original motors, with over 4400 hours now. I'm also on Lake Erie. They are really well-built boats. I'm surprised how well mine has held up.
