Tiara Coronet Teak and holly repair
#1
New to Tiara forum and new owner of first Tiara.. The teak and holly floor is pretty beat up and want to re-finish.. Previous owner must have had a dog that needed its nails done.. Exposed wood over the years has darkened and think it needs to be totally stripped and refinished..

Thanks in advance Joe

It’s not a bad job to refinish as long as the wood isn’t too damaged. The flooring has a low luster urethane finish. A light scuff and or light sanding out of scratches usually will do the trick. Dents can be removed by slicing the middle of the dent with a razor / exacto knife. Place a wet towel over the dented area and hit it with a hot iron. The steam will infiltrate the wood and swell it up. Keep moving the rag so you can keep making steam over the dent. Don’t worry about the area turning a little white. Prior to putting down the new urethane, use your exacto knife to clean out the groves between holly strips. Vacuum the whole floor, wipe it down with acetone then a tack rag and you should be good to go. For me it worked best to put the finish down the whole length of one or two boards at a time. Once the finish is down go back and pull a wet brush down the whole length to remove any buildup.

Thanks for the info.. Curious if this is a veneer teak and holly or if there was any real depth to it.. Hopefully I can take it down a bit to make it perfect”

Pull up a floor a hatch up and see or drop Tiara customer service an email with you HIN. All the tiaras I have owned or worked on had solid teak planking. But I believe they did install veneer on some boats so definitely worth checking.
