Tiara Open Bed too small in 3300 Open??
#1
Hi there,

I'm looking at a couple Tiara 3300's as a move up from our 2700, but the bed just seems so darn small, even with the extension pulled out.

How has this bed worked for you?  Any way to make it larger?

Thanks!

It’s worked for us in our 3300. I’m 6’1, 225lbs and my wife 5’7 110lbs. We have been plenty comfortable and I’m not one to sleep close.

Thanks Scott.  I'm slightly taller and thinner and my wife is slightly shorter and heavier, but pretty similar.  How old are you guys if you don't mind me asking?  A honeymooners this. would have looked great!

Had another model with the same bed. It was big enough but the awkward shape was problematic. I built a removable platform to fill in the entire space where the extension is in your picture. I then cut a piece of memory foam to fit. That made the bed huge, no more problems!

Thank you sir.  Can you share details on how that was built?  By platform do you mean something that extends all the way to the floor??

I was thinking the same thing if that "drawer" could be made bigger you could just cut a piece of foam to fit.  The standard cushion doesn't lok too comfy anyway.

Photos would be amazing if you have them.

I will look for photos but don't think I have any.  I did attach a random photo I had of another boat that did this.  This picture might have been my inspiration.  Essentially, I used mahogany strips, roughly 1" x 1" in cross section and thru-bolted these around the perimeter of the 'nook' (the inset area to be filled with the cushion), then laid a piece of plywood on top of these mahogany 'cleats', and the piece of foam went on top of that.  The foam and plywood were cut to the shape of the nook using a template that I made.  I also put a piano hinge in the center of the plywood to make it easier to store.

Thank you for this!  That certainly looks clean.  What model is this or yours?  The 3300 is more angled and there is a sink and cabinet to port, which is nice, but sleeping well is nicer.
