I have a "New to me" 2002 3100 Open. The Windlass will retrieve but it will not payout. I have checked the power to the lugs on the windlass and when I hit the retrieve button I get good voltage but when I test the power on the other lung when hitting the down button I do not get any voltage, and I have tested both the helm and foot switch. I am guessing the solenoid mounted under the deck in the anchor locker is most likely the culprit. I have ordered a new one using the part number on the solenoid, but I cannot find a model number on the windlass itself. Does anyone know which model windlass the 3100 has?

Did you try reversing the power leads to the windlass? its a simple 12vdc motor ... effectively that will test the windlass itself (push the retrieve button and it will payout when leads are reversed) I had to replace a solenoid for a friend on his 07 30 open. The solenoid in that moist environment is harsh.

Thanks for the reply. This something I am going to try the next time I go down to the boat. I was thinking the same thing as to the location of the solenoid. I would think they would have put it somewhere else.
Here is another thought. The down switch on the bow may be defective. I replaced mine last year on a 2004 boat that we bought new. The environment is harsh. We could retrieve the anchor but not deploy it. In our case, the helm switch worked so it did clearly point to a problem with the foot switch. Let us know the outcome.

Mine had the same problem. It was the Solenoid. What a pain to replace. You would think they would find a better place to mount it. Word of advice. I ended up removing the foot switches and extending the leads in order to make the connections to the solenoid much easier as there is no way I was going to be able to reach the solenoid after it was mounted to the under side of the deck.
When you remove the foot switches, it is very important to load up the screws with 4300 when reinstalling them so the deck core stays dry. This area of the deck is prone to rot if water is allowed to penetrate the scre holes.
