So this might be a dumb question. I just purchased 1988 3300 Open and his at my marina. Working getting it ready for the water. Like to clean the bilges out and know there is a plug on aft bilge. How does the come out? I tried to turn it and it won't budge. Is it a recomedned practice to utilize this plug to clean out bilges? All my other boats were I/O's with drain plug screwed in the transom. Thanks in advance!

I have an 86 3600 and have never taken that plug out. Neither did the previous owner. I just use a wet shop vac and suck any water out.

After the second try and little more force, it came loose. It is just a brass pipe thread.

I hope you meant it’s just an NPT (National Pipe Thread) thread. Brass fittings are OK for above waterline non raw (sea) water applications but anything under the waterline and/or raw (sea) water related better be bronze or you’re liable to have major issues.

While you’re at it, make sure the female fitting (connected to the boat) is properly bonded. Personally I drill and tap the plug so that it too can be bonded. This allows me to use thread sealant (“teflon”) without fear of breaking the bonding.
