32 Tiara planing and tracking squirrely
#1
I have a 2008 Tiara open that leans to port on higher speeds when on plane. Counter with starboard side down and levels but then goes into a severe left turn. Can't turn when level unless you reduce power. Currently in the hands of a major dealer/service center with 25 techs and the best is working on it. Rudder checked and adjusted acccording to Tiara communications. Hull was stringed for hook and is straight. Bow planers checked and function normal. Weird and hard to track straight.
any ideas or stories ?

Check the cotter pin in your rudder linkage, I had one fall out one time because the connection was loose and it acted similar to yours.

cmnuke,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. That is a strange one! I have run many 32 Tiaras and have never had this type of issue.

What power do you have? Crusader, Cummins, Volvo?

The handling characteristics you are describing could be caused by a trim tab, rudder alignment or shaft tunnel cover issues. I suppose, a broken stringer could cause enough hull flex to cause this issue as well, but I have never seen this on a Tiara.

My #1 guess would be the shaft tunnel cover on one side has come loose. When you are running at speed, water pressure pulls one corner down and causes the handling issues. When you slow down, the cover returns to its original place. Those covers are bonded to the hull with 3M 5200 I believe. They are also screwed, which is believe is mainly to hold the covers in place while the bonding agent cures. Have the covers looked at and see if they are loose or separating at the front edges.

Good Luck!

Thanks, will check. Had the Toe in increased to 1 to 11/4 inches,a little more aggressive than Tiara recommended. Much better, controllable. Can steer to the right now decent. Has a little lean yet at higher speeds but correctable.Have Cummins 5.9. tabs seem fine. Gonna ck Wheels next time out. But much much better. Love the boat ! Just put the new E125s in also. Going fishing !

Hmmm. Strange that 1/4" of additional toe-in would correct your handling issue. I still think you have something else going on. Did you add any weight to the vessel recently such as a tender on the platform or something very heavy in the bilge below the fish boxes? Too much weight in the stern can cause adverse handling, leaning and the inability to turn well. I would still check the shaft covers if you have not already done so.

Good Luck!
