hello all, new to forum but not to boating. have been boating on the east end of long island for  25 years. presently have 26 ft pilothouse i have had since 2005. its time to get something else with some creature comforts.  would ideally like to find a 32 open but looked at an older 3500 open yesterday. 7.4 crusaders and in great condition. doesnt have the hard top or a couple other features i want but would like any opinions or info that you can give on that boat. wont be run offshore so im ok with the gas but worry about being under powered  if i put a few people on it. thanks

I have an older 36 Open with 7.4's and have never felt underpowered. Typically fish with 4 to 5 guys in some pretty nasty stuff at times.

thanks for hoping for a little more info. current owner says its only a 19-20 knot cruise and bottom was redone last year. said it will go faster but with a lot more fuel burn. maybe ill have to look fora newer version with the 8.1's

You had asked about being underpowered, not performance numbers.

At 3200 rpms my cruise is 21 knots burning around .7 to .75 kmpg.

Cruise at 3000 is 18 knots and 3400 is 24 knots.

Fuel economy is best in the 3200 to 3400 range (75% of WOT). If 8.1s were available for my boat, I would have gotten them. But I wouldn't not by a boat with 7.4s if it was a good boat.
