I own a 2003 38 Open and my Compass is mounted on the starboard stringer mid ship under the salon floor where the fresh water pumps and mid ship bilge pump are located. I have a SIMRAD Auto pilot (AP22) utilizing a SIMRAD Rate Compass (RC25). Autopilot works very good and the heading is stable. The Autopilot is integrated to a GARMIN 7612 (primary) and a FURUNO NAVNET (secondary) for GPS position/waypoint/route/speed data
