how to you open the to pull out the basket? I have the Groco ARG series straines circa 2006 on my 3600 Sovran. I dont see an easy way to open them to clean them out. Is there a special wrench?? Thanks in advance.
You need a Spanner Wrench. (Groco Wrench Spanner/Deck Plate GRO-SW2531). Try West Marine or E-Bay. About $15-20. Capt. George
Thanks!! LOL I have one, found it in the chart locker, I thought it was some sort of compass/chart dividers!!! I assume I will see the holes where you place this, and said holes are on top of the strainer.
Do you have to close thru-hulls before opening and inspecting strainers?

YES! Definitely. Unless you want to rinse out the inside of your engine room. The strainers are below the waterline. Open them up and you just open at least a 2" hole in the bottom of your boat.
