Anyone have any advice on the best prop to use for a 43 OPEN with CAT 3196's making 660 hp. I have to replace my set and was wondering if there is any new technology versus the traditional 3 blade prop that I am using now.
Current prop on boat is Federal Equi-Poise Cup 27x36. I hit 2330 rpm's WOT at around 33 knots.
The Acme 4 blade should give you a little stern lift and a little better speed across the rpm range. They are an expensive set of wheels but if cost is no object then take a look and more importantly, see if you can borrow a set to see how your boat performs. 2320-2350 is what you want to see at full engine load and gross vessel weight.
I did not change out the props on my 43 but another 43 open maintained by the same yard put them on and reported well over a 2 knot speed increase, smoother operation and better handling. If you are serious send me a PM and I’ll try to connect you with the owner who has first hand knowledge.
