Hi there,

Just purchased a 1990 2700 Open and love it.  However, I assumed I'd be able to check oil regularly by sliding the seats back, but for the life of me I can't find the dipsticks.  The motors are mercruiser 350s, so everything is black.

Can someone help?  Please tell me I don't have to remove the entire doghouse engine cover just to inspect oil levels?

On my 1988 27 Open, only the center hatch needed to be removed for oil checks.  The seat assemblies remained in place.  My boat had 350 Crusaders, but your Mercs should be very similar.  Bob

I have the 1989 Tiara 2700 and i had the same issue could not find thee dip sticks. Slide back the center floor between the engines and the dip sticks are in the middle

This is helpful guys - thank you. I thought I had done that but let me check again. This would make sense since one panel would allow checking both engines.

if you guys have any other tips and tricks, I'm all ears. Love the boat, but with the tightness of everything its clear there is goign to be a learning curve to figure out how to maintain it.

Loved our 27 Open but one odd thing was the forward bilge area which had no real access. Once a year or so I would remove the dinette table and insert a manual bilge pump into the stanchion base and pump out standing water. Check out the rudder shaft support plates, mine were rusty so I replaced with newer Tiara product. I also replaced the stuffing box packing with GFO packing which was a significant improvement. Bob

O upon removing the center panel, I was able to *find* the dipsticks, but its essentially impossible to check the oil. The loop of the stick sits right up agains the bottom of the engine cover. Not sure if someone screwed this up in the past perhaps when changing the manifolds, but when i do some maintenance I'll try to fix it. Maybe its different on crusaders.

Thanks Ron. Are you able to actually check the oil without removing the engine dog houses? I am finding it nearly impossible, certainly not somethign I would do before each startup, which is a routine I am used to and dangerous not to be able to do it.

Hav eyou looked into relocting yours somehow??
