Is this a new issue, or has it gotten worse over time? Has the boat been fresh water since new or spent significant time in salt water?
On our old 42, the pump was on the forward bulkhead in the ER and the strainer was near it. Check that it is clean. If so, you may have some restriction (barnacles if previous salt water boat) in the water line between there and the units themselves or the pump or pump impeller may be wearing out.
