98 Crusader 454 Port transmission
#1
We were having the cutlass bearings changed out and our mechanic (who is new to us but seems knowledgeable) shares that he believes the port engine transmission may be on its way out.  He said he was having a hard time moving the shaft both directions easily which for him was a sign that the transmission may have problems and needed replacing.

Not knowing anything about this, does this sound right? I’m thinking we should get a second opinion from a shop that specializes in transmissions and may have some options for us.

Looking for anyone who has had similar issues input or general guidance here.  The boat is in great condition well maintained throughout. I’m the 3rd owner and have all the papers.  Less than 800 hours on the engines transmission fluid changed regularly as well.  Location is S Florida.

Thank you.
