The sending units on the waste tank are notorious for failing. The water tank sending units do fail every few years. Not uncommon. It could however be the gauge as mentioned above. Tiara eventually went to electrical sensors sometime in the mid to late 2000s as the mechanical float sensors were notorious for failing. Even the electrical sensors are not full proof and can and do fail, just not as often.
If you are mechanically inclined, have tools and like hot cramped spaces, you can replace sending units. Keep in mind the black water tank sensor will not be pleasant to replace. Have a hose, gloves and large plastic bags ready at the reach when doing this. A full face mask respirator would also be a plus! If you don't have a face mask respirator, make sure you wear eye protection and gloves. A drop of raw sewage in the eyes or in a cut can spell disaster! Sorry to be graffic, but my dad ended up with a staff infection that put him in the hospital for several days after messing with the blackwater tank.
