I believe a lot of the fisherman here on the Great Lakes prefer gas engines over diesel. Gas engines are ok idling for long periods and usually don't need bags or trolling valves to get the boat down to salmon speed.

Having said that I am a fan of diesels and if you end up getting a 35 (great boat by the way) or whatever with diesels just make sure it has not been over propped and that the PO has kept up with scheduled maintenance.
