Hi all, having an issue with my Westerbeke gas generator. When i go to start it the 8amp fuse on the generator control panel blows. I have bypassed the oil pressure switch, water temp switch and high exhaust temp switch, fuse will still blow. i have a short somewhere and cannot locate it. if I disconnect the remote switch harness the fuse will not blow but the genny will only stay running while holding the ON switch on. Very confusing....any ideas out there? i cant get a mechanic to look at it, most dont want to work on GAS generators.
There are alot of reports and resolutions of the 8 amp fuse blowing for this generator over on The Hull Truth and iBoats.
But did you just jumper the temp and Oil pressure sensors or did you disconnect them and jumper them? The sensors themselves can go bad and cause a short.
Thanks for your reply Misdirection, I went back to bypassing the shut down switches and found it to be the water temp switch, I did need to jump because it is a closed switch, I also needed to have the remote harness hooked up to complete the circuit. Got the new switch and installing today, then the boat is ready to put up for sale, new to us boat coming soon!

Would you have a link on how to bypass the sensors? My generator runs for about 20 to 30 minutes and then shuts down. It is;t running hot or overheating base on temps from temp gun. Thanks in advance.
I would start by finding your generator at Westerbeke and downloading the troubleshooting and electrical diagrams. I believe one of those two will provide instructions on how to locate temporarily jump each sensor.
