I have a 2003 38 Open and the holding tank is located under/behind the removable ladder type (gray) deck cover, center rear of the engine room in front of the Gen Set. Tank itself is located under the deck the Gen Set sits on.. I removed the holding tank sensor to clean as it wasn't functioning correctly at all levels... Just lift the removable (ladder like) gray deck plate and it gives you access...M2C
If you need to replace, check out KUS. They sell one that has a float on it that fits/wires perfectly. Takes about 10mins to change. All you need to know is the length of your sensor.
If it were me, I’d change regardless of whether cleaning works. Cleaning didn’t work on mine, and when I called the original manufacturer to see about a replacement, they were shocked that unit was used in a freshwater tank (something about it having lead components). So I think a new KUS unit was $60 and peace of mind.

No.. What I was trying to describe is the gray grate on the engine room floor... My bad.. The grate is just forward of the Gen set and provides access to the mid ship bilge pump...

Well shucks. I have always wanted a ladder by the generator so I can get down there easier when the deck is raised. I have both Tiara Facebook forums alerted to send me a picture of theirs.
