The manual for my 2005 Tiara 2900 Open show a gauge on the dinette wall that with a button push will show the level of the water tank or the waste tank. However my boat just has a gauge showing the water level. I can of course see the waste water tank but find it difficult to see through the opaque plastic so see the level. Is there a level indicator somewhere that I am not aware of. Give how much thought Tiara has given to convenience features I find it hard do believe that there is not a waster water tank indicator somewhere. Thanks

Water level indicators work quite well. Waste tank indicators, those that are in the tank, need constant maintenance. They are always stuck and need to be removed for cleaning. In my opinion they are not worth the effort. There are some thru-the tank wall sensors available but I do not have any experience with them. I use a flashlight to see the tank level. It's quite obvious if you have a focused beam.

 While the Tiara manual is pretty good, it does provide information on options that your boat may not have.

After a while you will get a good feel for when it needs to be pumped. Everyone, including guests must know that there is a limited capacity to the tank.

My tank is more than sufficient for a normal weekend. I always pump out before putting her away for the week.

I pump every time I fill fuel. Sometimes I'll get a pumpout from a boat if on a mooring with some guests. I have a 31 and do wish I had some sort

My 1998 31 open has waste and water level in one guage the fresh water is spot on while the waste water is never right and only works for short period of time after cleaning not worth the effort just get a feel for when you need to pump out

When the read-out on the gauge for the waste tank seemed slow to respond or even show what was in the tank I decided to pull the sensor out (After emptying the tank) and clean the sensor. At that time I calibrated the sensor to see if the readout was accurate. Found the sensor didn't go to the bottom of the tank and that results in the gauge reading zero (empty) till the tank gets approx. 1/4 full. Then the gauge starts reading and is somewhat accurate..... I empty the waste tank every weekend so it generally doesn't show anything on the gauge since the tank is less than 1/4 full..... Also, there is a valve in the engine compartment that forces fresh water into the waste tank on top of the sensor to ensure its clean and not blocked. I use that valve when ever I think the sensor isn't working.... My experience.

New 2006 29 open owner ... Do I have to turn a valve to pump out the waste take? If so where is it located?

It depends on how your pumping out, overboard or through the deck plate.

On my boat (1994) there are 3 things you need to do to pump overboard. Just a side note, this is only legal over 3 miles offshore. Many localities now make it mandatory that the overboard discharge is physically locked out to prevent accidental discharges. Many boats now do not even have the ability for overboard discharge.

First was switch the y-valve in the engine room.
Second was to open the sea cock under the large deck hatch which also requires removing the tub.
Third was to turn the macerator pump on.

For the deck plate, the y-valve must be turned to the deck plate. This is how I keep mine setup since I have not pumped out offshore in years. My macerator died and it just wasn't worth replacing.

If you get boarded in shore by the Coast Guard for an inspection they will check that your over board discharge valve is closed. I keep a Tie-Wrap on my valve to keep it locked in the closed position. Capt. George

We have a pump out boat that comes up to the boat and sucks the crap out...I tried it last weekend and nothing happened. the capt said I need to turn the check vale. Just wondering which one.  the one under the large fish box or the one behind the port engine? or both
