My house batteries are 8+ yrs old and not holding charges. Any guidance on a good replacements, size, etc.? Also any thoughts about moving them (currently in the storage are of the port seatee)? Thinking about moving them under the seat helm (stb) or to the engine compartment (lower stb side - opposite the engine batteries) to counter some of the list that is common on the 31 (batteries, appliance, storage, almost all weight other than the water tanks are on port).

Not sure what type of batteries you have. I have a 2003 38 Open w/6 GEL Batteries (3 house & 3 Engine/generator). I can't believe how long they have lasted. There in the boat since commissioning May 2004.... That's almost 14 years and still appear to be OK.. Last time I tested them was in the fall and they showed good.... Know that replacing them will be expensive but they have given me great service.. M2C

The boat is a 98 31 Open.
Thanks in advance
Wow, 8+ years. What make and size batteries are they ? That's twice the time I usually get from mine.

On my 31 I used deep cycle Lifeline AGM batteries. They were ten years old and working well when I sold the boat. I did need to fine tune the voltage regulators and battery charger a bit when I first installed the batteries as the previous batteries were lead acid and they use a different charge profile. Bob
