Movement in port rudder fitting
#1
Question
The port side rudder on my 1990 tiara 3100 has some noticeably movement. The boat was just hauled out to have cutlass bearings replaced and the movement was detected.

It appears there is a pin in the rudders near the top that connects to a shaft fitting coming down through the hull.

Starboard rudder is tighter and less shifting.

Does any one have any thoughts on this set up? Could it be a worn shaft fitting? Is there a bushing the rudder shaft passes through that could be worn?

No visible water in the aft bilge area.

I'm not sure what your are describing. Is the rudder shaft loose in the thru-hull fitting ( try repacking the shaft)  or are you talking about the linkage connected to the tiller arms. This is a common wear point that I usually fix by drilling the fitting and installing a larger size pin.  Capt . George
