Tiara Open Bent strut
#1
Hey Im a new Tiara owner and new to this club. My wife and I purchased a 91 4300 open back in Feb. I have a bent strut ( long story ) I feel like the boatyard is trying to estamate repair cost for insurance and Im just looking to fix the bent strut and shaft. Is this terribally expensive or what ?

I never had the problem but my buddy did. The prop, shaft and strut had to come off ( not always easy, depends on where the bolts are located ) and all went to a prop shop. Then it had to be reinstalled with a new cutlless bearing and then aligned to the boat and the engine. Not an easy job.

I had to re-bed my port strut this summer (another long story). The task went very quick and easy. I did not remove the shaft, I just dropped the strut and slid it off the shaft, but I checked alignment and shaft runout first to make sure when it went back together if was the same. If you have a bent strut you probably have a bent shaft and removal of the shaft can be very difficult due to removal of the coupler can put up a big fight. If some reason you only have a bent strut, I would do this work again without hesitation, but shaft and re-alignment are whole different issue and work. My 2 cents.
