Dinghy Ramp XL roll on
#1
Any one have the Dingy Ramp XL? Thinking of installing this davit system on our 2000 38 Tiara open? The Ramp would be transporting a 9.5 Rigid inflatable with 15 Hp. Looking for any feed back positive or negative. Thanks Jim

I have 1 on our sovran. I do like the design however retrieving the dinghy by hand isn't as easy as it looks. I ended up having a sailor friend make up a block and tackle which made it easier. The only other thing you have to be conscious of are the blocks that are on the platform when the davits are not mounted. These can be rough on toes. I will gladly send pics of my setup if you'd like...

I also am interested in installing the ramps on my 41 Open. It just seems that the swim platform is not wide enough to accomodate it. I suppose it hangs over the edge of the platform when carrying the dink. Mounting and unmounting the outboard is getting old. Pictures would help. Thanks

I just checked out another dinghy ramp manufactured by Nautley. [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Let me figure out how to post pics and I'll get them uploaded...

My dinghy does hang off the boat. I have it set up so the center of the dinghy is just outboard of the platform edge. That way the motor can be in the down position.

Nautley is the mfg of the dinghy ramp. They have the regular and XL. I chose the XL as I thought it would be easier to load etc.

So it is a little more difficult to pull up then is advertised. I knew the blocks on the swim platform would be some what of a nuisance but, I out weighed that by having the inflatable available for transportation, raft rides etc... How is the system while traveling is it sturdy and do the seas interfere with it at all?

I did like this system better because it had the 4 blocks spread out on the platform which appeared more sturdy than the Hurley Davits. My platform is only approximately 18 1/2 in deep.

See pictures below:

One thing that applies to the Sovran and its molded platform that likely won't matter on the open. On the sovran since I was drilling through the swim platform (wood glass etc), I drilled larger wholes than I needed and filled with west six10. I then drilled the bolt holes through the epoxy thus never allowing the core to be exposed to moisture if the bolts act as a moisture wick.

We have had the boat in a variety of seas from Large following to beam to substantial head seas and have not had a problem. The only thing I'm careful about is not to come off plane too fast as the water will come up under the tender.

Let me know if you have any questions.
