I have the same problem ive thought about takeing the panel out have it repainted and then engraved in white letters

There are a few places that will make new panels for you. Google is your friend, but I have seen a few panels from new wire marine and they looked great.

I removed My panels and wrapped them with 3M carbon fiber wrap. Then had a sign guy make new lettering, then I clear coated them to protect them. It looks great.

My dash panels, 94 31 open, were repainted by Goran Majdandzic  goran@qualitymarineelectronics.com in Zeeland MI 49464.  Not cheap but they look new and when I had a problem with one panel he took care of it immediately.
