Fix for a Bouncing Tach (CAT 3208)
#1
This fix is specific to boats with 3208’s and tach cables connected to the engine via an Aetna sending unit.

Since we bought our boat almost 2 years ago, the starboard tach would start bouncing once past about 1800RPM. Rebuilding the tach didn’t fix it and neither did new tangs on the tach cables.

Long story short, the connections between the Aetna sending unit and tach cable trying to weave out the front of the engine around the belt cage is too tight. I had Glendenning make me a couple 11” extenders (about $80 each). I connected those directly to the tach housing on the front of the engine, then the sending unit, and finally the rest of the original tach cable. She’s now steady as a rock!

Figured I’d drop this here in case anyone ever runs into the same issue. Happy to answer any questions.
