We currently own a 1990 3100 Open with back to back seating both port and starboard. We would like to move up to a newer model 98-04 3500 Open but are struggling with the L style port seating. My wife enjoys sitting forward facing as we cruise at speed, providing a second set of eyes and also keeps her from getting motion sickness. My question is for those of you that own the L shape port seating, is there something I missing providing forward facing seating on port? I appreciate any ideas or solutions.

Missing? I have a 2000 3500 Open with the L shaped port seating. My wife is typically towards the back of that seating in the curved section. Can she see over the port helm area when at cruise, no. But can while trolling or when the bow is not lifted. It make for a nice place to sit during rain storms, get out of the sun etc. We prefer that seating to the back to back as you mentioned just make it better for entertaining not that there is a whole lot or room there. We also have a hinged aft cover over the cockpit allowing entertaining there during rain/sun and it folds to allow us to fish as well.

I had a 1997 31 open and now have a 38 open with the "L" shaped lounge... My wife loves it as she can put her feet up when we are running. She sits in the back corner facing forward. Many time she grabs a small pillow and blanket and sleeps while underway..... When anchored or at a dock it's a great place for socializing. I made a table that adds to the sociability of the "L" lounge. We serve breakfast using it and the table more times than not.... Great design and really functional.. M2C....

Thanks for the replies and good to hear your wives enjoy the L shape design. Not having spent any time on in a Tiara with the L seating, what is the forward most section that appears to be removable on some models? Is it removable? If so, what is that area used for? I am referring to the forward most section closest to the cabin. Thanks

The forward most section is removable. It has to be as it needs to be removed when lifting/opening the engine hatch (not the day hatch). There is a micro switch that inhibits the engine room hatch from opening if the seat is in place. Need to place the helm seat fully back as well... Another good design/safety feature thought-out by the engineers at Tiara

Reelmagic, you happen to have a photo of the table, would like to incorporate something like that maybe if I can make it removable as well.

As stated the forward seat is removable but my microswitch never worked as it was a magnetic switch and the 2 halves never lined up, but you do have to remember to remove it when lifting the hatch. I had always thought it would be a great place for a small freezer for ice when fishing but then again, just more stuff to move when lifting the hatch I guess, and more stuff to break. So, it remains a seat for my tackle to sit on.
