Hi - We've got a 94 4000e. Just last week, I noticed Hydraulic fluid leaking from behind the helm. I tipped it back and looked around and couldn't identify the source. Obviously it's part of the steering system, I checked the connections and all seemed sound. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?? If so, what was the issue and how did you correct it.
I have a mechanic who I trust coming out early next week, but am looking to get as much information as I can in advance. I have found on the Tiara owners site, some one posted they had a problem, and were able to correct it, but did not have much detail. According to that post, the steering system is made by Hynautics located in Greewich CT.

The helm unit can leak where the shaft for the steering wheel enters the unit. If you have a Hy-Drive system, I've previously posted some info on this you can find by searching.
Turned out it was the steering unit leaking. My mechanic fixed it in one day for 3.5 hours of labor and an 85 dollar seal kit. Bled the system and cleaned everything up. Glad it was a simple and inexpensive one!
I have a leaky steering wheel. I’m pretty sure I’m low on fluid. I lost steering when I was out fishing. Rudders would move port side and nothing on starboard. Is it easy to replace the seals?

I had same issue - removed the helm and sent it to boatsteer.com and they rebuilt it and sent it back in 3 days - don’t forget new fluid and the kit to fill it and bleed it

Seems like quite a bit of interest in this leaking hydraulic steering fluid thread! I was wondering if anyone has a photo that that they would share that shows the filler cap location and/ or anything that would help to top up the fluid and to address the cause of the leak? Any assistance with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2000 41 Open and the fill is on the flat part of the dash. It's a little dime sized knob looking thing. Unscrew it and attach the tube (purchased at West Marie) with the bottle of hydraulic steering fluid and fill it.
