AC pump replacement
#11
to finalize this, the new pump was put in, and everything worked just fine!! Pumping like crazy!! So to summarize a bit, Dometic makes the red pump that comes with the boat (and that was the pump that finally worked) . supposedly they make a generic pump that has the same characteristics as the red pump, but is blue without Dometic on the pump (really I dont know if this is true or I got BS) anyway the blue is about $100 cheaper, and that's what we started with and did not work. We sent it back and got the Red, and put it in with no problems and it, as mentioned is working fine.
So was the blue pump a defective? or did it just not have enough humpf to work? I dont know but I am happy to have my A/C back.

Most likely defective. No pump should shut off on its own after a few seconds. Glad it worked out for you and you are able to keep cool.

Dometic does not make pumps, they purchase them and put their name on them. Pump in question are made by March. Most likely series 3 possibly series 5 (haven't read the entire thread here). Here is a website for the March series 3 pump

thanks for the info, there is Dometic stamped on the pump, so that is why we assumed they made it, I will pass this along.

the only error I've gotten is HPF which occurred when the pump wasn't pumping any water, I assume it went into some sort of 'protection' mode as it should.
We believe the old one wasn't pumping enough water (water came out of the close thru hull just fine, it was the far thru hull that it just trickled) because the plastic impeller appears to be very worn, that it is you can see where it should be in the housing, but it is too worn to fit correctly.

As mentioned out solution is to go back to the name brand pump and forget the generic, should go on today or tomorrow, I'll let you know.

If we have any issues, I'll have the tech put a meter on to check the voltage etc.

Thanks for your help!! Sluggo

the pump could have been air bound

as it turns out later this summer, we fought a similar problem.  It turns out the line from the thru hull to the pump had several checks or breaks in it, and yes was sucking air.  We replaced that hose (maybe at most 12"?) and it pumps like a champ now!!!
