I recently purchased a 1993 31' Open and have used the AC unit only a handful of times. There seems to be a strong fuel smell in the cabin when I operate my AC unit. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
that condition is not normal . You may want to test or inspect for any fuel leaks . A failed vent tube ,fill hose connections and the tanks themselves. Also a dingy motor in storage can fume up things .
I had that problem on my 87 31. Two issues, both sending unit gaskets on top of the tanks were rotted. second problem was the air inlet filter to the ac unit was severely restricted and the blower was pulling air from wherever it could...
I agree, fuel fumes in the cabin can be a recipe for disaster! You likely have a fuel or fuel fume leak somewhere and running the Air-Conditioning is pulling air or pressurizing the air and pulling the fumes into the cabin.
Start looking for fuel leaks and remember not use any non-ignition protected devices on your boat until you fix the problem.
You may want to narrow it down to when you smell the fumes, after you have run the boat, after putting fuel in,etc.Open the V-berth storage area and start from there trace the smell back to where the leak is it could just be a loose couple of clamps on the filler necks.
