fresh water leak
#1
Hi, I'm Steve and own a 2001 38 tiara open. I am loosing water from my fresh water tank. It is not in any faucet or plumbing after the pump, because the pump works and never turns on to rebuild pressure unless needed. I am guessing it is in the fresh water tank itself or plumbing from there to pump. Anyone that can help would be appreciated. Two questions; How can I access the tank and plumbing, and I'm guessing if I don't see the leak I should use food coloring to find it??

How much water? Are you loosing all of it, or just a little. That may determine where the leak is coming from. The water tank is plastic if I remember correctly, although in 2001, it may have been aluminum. You are sure the leak is before the pump? Did you check the pre-filter (small filter, clear plastic cover, stainless mesh), this is the most common source of a leak before the pump.

Check from the bilge side at the transom shower head; I once had a small crack in a supply hose, which is often under pressure, but in a location not often observed. A symptom would be fresh water in that area of the bilge, or signs where water had run before evaporating.

I agree with Chris. The gasket on the plastic inlet strainer is usually the problem. Pulling the tank would be a last resort. Capt. George

The leak must be low I loose all the water. Ill look at the transom shower but I thought I would here the pumps come on eventually. Does anyone no where the tank actually is? and how I can Look at it?

If you are losing all of the water, but your pump is not cycling, that usually means the leak is before the pump and down low on the tank. I'm drawing a blank on tank location. It is either center of engine room between the engines, or below the cabin floor. Check all the fittings you can get to. I'm sure you have a cracked fitting somewhere on the tank before the pump.
