I have a noisy AC raw water circulating pump anyone have the same or know how to quiet it? The flow of water is plenty so no air is in system, any ideas? :bang:
On one boat I solved this problem by suspending the pump on a piece of 1/8 " rubber mounted vertically so it just hangs on it. On my present boat I installed a Cal pump on rubber feet. Very quiet. Capt. George
Was the pump always noisy, it did it become noisy over time? If it has increased its noise level over time, it may need to be rebuilt. George has a good suggestion of placing an isolator between the pump and the mounting surface.
You wrote that there was no air in the system. Is there a way to bleed the air out? Both my air conditioning keypads show HHH about 50% of the time. When I open the sea strainer, it corrects the problem, but after awhile it displays the three H's again, which indcates either there is a collapsed water hose, or the water pump is malfunctioning. Maybe time to replace the water pump which has little use.
Jakes - do you keep your boat on a lift? It is common to get air-lock on lift kept boats. If you are getting air-lock on a vessel kept in the water, you likely have a leak in the system. Most common leaks are at the sea-strainer or the pump connections.
They make pump rebuild kits if your motor is functioning well, and just the pump part is not. These are mag drive pumps meaning that an electric motor rotates a magnet inside a sealed housing and another magnet is rotated inside the pump assembly. Easy to rebuild with basic tools and a rebuild kit. If my memory serves me correct, rebuild kits are about $70.00.
Chris, my boat is kept at a slip in the water. I will check the strainer again for leaks, but so far I haven't detected any. I will look for the rebuild kit as well. thanks for your advice.
Let us know if it is a March pump. They are notorious for making noise because of the magnetic coupling and the loose tolerances. The impeller just rattles around in the pump housing. I always replace them with a Cal pump if the noise bothers me. Capt. George
